Blog 2 for presentations- Meylin Hano
For our theme project, we had to do a couple of things. We had the option of picking from six subtopics. These subtopics were law and order-protests/rallies, education, health care, immigration, racial divides, and economy. The topics listed are all super important to talk about and to bring awareness to. I am glad that we had the freedom and opportunity to choose from these major topics. These are topics that everyone should have some degree of education on or awareness. The group presentations were highly educational and I think I can speak for everyone when I say it all taught us something. My group and I did a great job in organizing what everyone was going to talk about in our agenda and we did the study guide with no problem. Isabella did an amazing job with all the technology related things. The brochure was easy to do as well. These group presentations help us communicate better and have stronger organizational skills. It also provides us with skills that promote teamwork. This theme project also encouraged us to do research and provided us with great knowledge.
For starters, group three shed light on health care. I think health care is an extremely important topic considering our health is what keeps the flow of life going. The amount of people that do not get proper treatment or even seek out treatment when they need it, due to how expensive it can be, is insane. Especially in a country where we have such great conditions in comparison to other countries. Rudy Romero listed the benefits and the downsides to a free health care system. I think the benefits outweigh the negatives. Having to worry about whether or not we can afford to be treated for something that makes us really ill is something that no one should experience, especially if it is a life threatening situation. Imagine going through a traumatic experience and having to pay off thousands of dollars that you do not even have because of an unfortunate circumstance that you did not ask for. That is the last thing anyone wants to worry about when they should simply be recovering. Higher taxes might not be the worst thing ever considering we have to pay thousands for healthcare sometimes. Why not spend a little bit more money in taxes and save a lot more in individual costs for hospitals bills. That is just how I see it but I am sure there is a lot more that goes into it. I liked that Isabella brought up having more access to psychological therapy. I do agree that everyone should do therapy in some form or way and more access to these things can decrease a lot of depression and other mental illnesses. I enjoyed the graphs and statistics that were included in the presentation. Everyone was very well spoken and had great points.

In addition, group two, which is my group, chose law and order and immigration. These topics are also very substantial. Joseph Padron spoke about the struggles that immigrants face. A lot of the time people migrate in order to have a better lifestyle and more opportunities. These immigrants struggle with so many obstacles like housing, transportation, food and more. Since they are treading through hidden paths, they can also experience a lot of trauma, all so they can have a better chance at life. I think that is respectable and also dangerous but sometimes it is just as or even more dangerous to stay in their home country. Joseph also talks about discrimination against immigrants. This is a huge problem and I have seen it happen before me. No one should be discriminated against just because they are trying to have a better life. Many people who did not have to go through this struggle, take for granted how good they have it and they use their ignorance to look down on immigrants. These immigrants face all types of discrimination that can result in even more struggles such as achieving employment or even maintaining it. They can also face police brutality and many more dangers simply because they are immigrants. It is a sad thing to see and I wish people would stop being so ignorant and lacking compassion. I spoke about the effects of kids being separated at the border and it is honestly such a sad situation that I would never wish on anyone. The way this situation was handled was terrible and I hope the people affected are somewhat compensated for all the trauma they have endured. I think our group did a great job in providing information and properly delivering it as well.
Group one spoke about the economy and racial divides. I think of all topics racial divides has to be a very upsetting topic especially because it comes from such hate and nonsense. I really do not understand how people can be racist to someone simply because of the color of their skin or where they are from. One of the members of group one housing in Miami. They presented statistics of how Miami’s housing situation gets worse every year. As someone that lives in Miami, this is a huge concern that has made many people’s lives significantly more difficult. I hope something about that changes for the better soon. Alejandro Leyva spoke about racial divides. He mentioned how black people are more likely to be victims of a homicide. I think that says a lot about what is wrong with the world. I think group one did great with the images and educational videos provided.
Represents how divided we are by racism💔
Overall, I think this project was highly educational. We incorporated the themes of the chapters assigned to us and included our subtopics. We also worked together and communicated effectively to give the best presentation that we could. Sadly, some people had emergencies and some things got lost in the mix of it all such as who was going to share the screen and things like that. I think all groups did a great job and delivered an abyss fr of information effectively. The topics given were also interesting and I liked that everyone remained informative instead of argumentative considering these topics are so complicated.
Excellent blog post
