Chapter 3,9, and 10

Why Communication Is Important: 👇 |
Everyone's daily life revolves around communication, thus learning the many forms of communication is helpful. I hated public speaking and was quite shy before enrolling in my speech class. I now feel more comfortable expressing myself after witnessing everyone else's presentations and learning about the various components of communication. Additionally, I think that many students were able to communicate more freely as a result of the presentations. I'm eager to see how much this class will help me overcome my shyness and, hopefully, keep giving me the self-assurance to speak up without fear.
Communication is shared through many different ways |
The study of communication between people from varied social and cultural backgrounds, as well as how culture affects communication, is known as intercultural communication. A crucial aspect of being human is communication, which is also a basic social requirement. Since man can only change as he interacts with people who share his innate values and goals, communication is an inherent quality of man. Culture influences and transmits communication. Culture is the culmination of a people's or civilization's artistic, social, linguistic, and behavioral expressions. When we humans are introduced to a new civilization that adheres to a different culture, we experience culture shock. Those who have experienced this often feel anxious and uncomfortable. Members of a co-culture change their nonverbal and linguistic patterns to conform to that co-dominant culture's culture. The dominant American culture has gradually started to value and celebrate the variety of civilizations that coexist in this country. In the dominant American culture, sex is defined by bigot-determined physical characteristics. The internet and communication channels that disseminate music, books, and video games make it simpler to understand all the various cultural styles. The many ways in which culture can be comprehended through communication resources has led to a rise in tolerance for diverse cultures and religious views.
Different type of work groups:
The second presentation, which was made by my group, focused on group communication. We concentrated on the various group dynamics that lead to effective collaboration. A group is made up of three to twenty individuals who strive to influence one another or who experience a sense of belonging. Members of a group communicate with one another verbally and nonverbally. This has the potential to make the experience positive or terrible. Mom, dad, and kids make up a nuclear family. Family that is not connected by blood or marriage. There are also protective families, where everything is chosen by the head of the household.
Social Groups |
Social groups are one of the various sorts of groupings that exist. Social groups are made up of individuals who genuinely care about one another and like being with one another. People who gather in support groups to offer encouragement, candid criticism, and a secure environment make up the groups. You can trust and feel at ease around this set of folks. They won't judge you or try to diminish your worth. There are efficient techniques to collaborate with others when working in teams. Five people make up the best working group size. It keeps the team organized and enables fair job distribution. The labor becomes more difficult and disorderly when there are more than five members in one group.Working in a diverse group is frequently more effective than working in other groups.
Heterogeneous vs Homogenous:
The members of heterogeneous work groups are frequently diverse and possess a range of knowledge. The same people are grouped together in homogenous work groupings. Because the same people possess the same skills, this frequently doesn't work out. In contrast, a heterogeneous group consists of individuals with a variety of skills who can cooperate to reduce the strain on the group. The different types of groups are important when working with important assignments and due dates. It makes it easier on everyone in the group.
Why Leadership is Important |
Problem-solving and group leadership were the topics of the last presentation. When it comes to groups, it is crucial to discuss your feelings with one another. It is discussed in further detail in this chapter how group work affects everyone involved and how it is crucial to voice any worries one may have. When collaborating with others, it is simple to become anxious and frustrated. due to the impression that they will be doing all the labor. When working in groups, that shouldn't be the case. If someone feels that they are doing more work than others, they should feel free to speak up and let the rest of the group know what they are worried about.
Six Steps of Systematic Problem Solving |
There are six steps of systematic problem solving: identify the problem, analyze the problem, come up with a list of solutions, listen to others opinions on the problem, evaluate and decide, and put it into action and assess. These steps should help you solve any issues you may have when working in groups. Also make you comfortable to know it is okay to speak up when working with others. It is always important to make sure when someone is voicing their concern everyone else listens and respects what they are saying.
Speech Class is Beneficial |
I am grateful we were able to do this project because I was able to learn a lot from it. I believe many other students did too. This project taught us how culture and communication plays a big role when working with others. Also how easy it is now to learn about the different cultures because of the different sources of communication. With group two we were able to learn what makes an effective work group. Working with five people is better than working with anything more or anything less because it becomes distracting and stressful. Also working with different people who know how to do different things that people who are all good at one thing is more effective. This is known as homogeneous and heterogeneous. Lastly with group three we learned the six steps of systematic problem solving. These steps are useful and make it easier for groups to communicate in stressful situations. It is always important to know that you are safe and respected in the group you are in. I think everyone in class did an amazing job and I am grateful to share a classroom with everyone in the class.
I agree...great class presentations.
