Blog Presentation Chapter 3, 9, and 10
Luis Contreras
Communication is an essential thing in our daily lives. Exchanging communication is a key to learning how to interact with others. Without the existence of communication, life is confusing. My parents used to always say that communicating is key. They made that sound so simple when in reality it wasn’t. Learning to communicate is harder than it sounds. How we exchange this information is crucial to how relationships flutter. People communicate in different ways, and culture and religion are big parts of how one communicates. Communication can be easier for some more than for others. Public speaking has always been an issue for me. Once I get up from my seat and see all my classmates just there something just starts happening where I can’t stop sweating and stuttering. My friends are perfect examples of public speakers, they don’t get nervous or anxious about talking and presenting some actually enjoy it. Going into college I specifically chose SPC1017 as a way to expand my communication skills and meet new people. I can’t wait to see how my communication skills develop after this class. The only downside of this class is that it's online. This isn’t really a bad thing, but I won't be able to practice my communication skills to the fullest. Our first activity as a group was to read chapter nine and make a presentation on it. It went well I was nervous to present with my camera on, but the professor made it so easy to do. I'm looking forward to this class more than any of my others.
This is an example of communication👇🏻
Group one wasn’t the first to present, which surprised me, to be honest. Their presentation was on chapter three which talks about culture. Culture is a huge part of communication. When communicating with others from different cultural backgrounds we need to consider how we speak. Some things that may be said could sound weird to others from different cultures even though they're normal to us. Actions also need to be taken into consideration we wouldn't want to be seen as disrespectful when we do something. In other words, we need to keep an open mind to those who are different from us. It helps to find similarities within each other, this helps the group dynamic. Sometimes we won't agree on certain topics and that’s okay, respecting each other and our boundaries will take us farther than just bashing each other for having different opinions. Communication is all about understanding and learning from each other after all. Group one's presentation was fantastic. From the way, they spoke to the way the slides were worded everything was amazing.
Onto group two, which was my group. Personally, I believe we did great. Yes, this is me being biased. Our group presentation was on chapter nine. Chapter nine was all about group communication. As a group we got along, it took some time for all of us to start talking in our group chat but eventually, the conversation just flowed out. We were all tasked with a common goal, but it didn’t feel like the interactions that we had were forced, everything just felt natural. This hasn’t been my experience in the past. For most of the groups I’ve been in the conversation felt forced and it was usually started by a singular person. This isn’t the case since we're always chatting when we have any concerns, usually, I would just stay quiet when I had a question, but it hasn’t happened this time. For our presentation, we listed all the types of groups. These are social groups, support groups, interest groups, service groups, virtual groups, and work groups. This chapter explains the difference between these group types and the dynamics that exist in said groups. One of our main topics was what makes work groups effective. Working together to achieve our common goal was a perfect representation of our assignment. The presentation wouldn’t have been complete without videos, pictures, and graphs. These things made the whole of the presentation. All the groups had visuals but ours was just the best. Our two leaders Meylin and Manuela did amazing. They were always there to answer any of our questions and concerns. Choosing leaders was the first step to completing our amazing presentation. All of us working together was such an amazing experience, I hope that we keep up the good work in our future assignments.
Examples of common team norms👇🏻
Last but not least is group three. Their presentation was on chapter ten. The presentation started off with the types of task roles. I liked how they explained how diverse people can be and their tasks. This helped me understand the different roles that each team member plays in the group. These roles help keep everything in place. Without them, the group wouldn’t know how to do their specific task. Group three took their time making the PowerPoint presentation, I noticed how everything was organized things just fit perfectly together. The group members seemed so professional each member presented their slides perfectly. One of my favorite parts of the presentation was that one clip from the office. Yes, the clip was long but it was hilarious and it gave a great example. The clip made sure that the presentation wouldn’t become boring. I also enjoyed how they talked about leadership roles. I found it interesting since its one of the most important parts of a group is the leaders. Sharing leadership can be difficult but it’s the most efficient way to get things done on time. Overall I enjoyed all the points that were made by group three, the presentation was amazing.
Maintenance Roles Definition 👆🏻
To conclude, we all did amazing. This was a new experience for all of us and I'm glad we experienced it together as a group. We all put in so much effort that paid off in the end. The class and group leaders did amazing. They were there to help all of us and I’m super grateful for that. I can’t wait to see how our communication skills develop over the course of this class.
Really nice post.
