Blog 2 Theme Project - Isabella Sanchez
Group three discussed both the advantages and disadvantages of it. The reduction of yearly deaths would be one advantage of free healthcare. According to a Harvard study, there are about 44,789 deaths each year that are directly related to healthcare access. Rudy Romero made this claim on one of the presentation's opening slides. It was beneficial that he brought up this topic in his presentation since it demonstrates how the American people are impacted by the lack of free healthcare.
Whatever political party you are affiliated with, what matters is what you do to assist in resolving this problem. If we everyone had access to healthcare, countless lives could be saved.Vladimir would then discuss homeschooling, which was unexpected but made for intriguing reading. Ramon would discuss educational planning, which is also crucial to us students. The final presenter would be Rose, and I really enjoyed what she did. She was kind enough to provide us with further resources on the information covered in the presentation. In addition to learning about the advantages of a universal health care system, we also learnt about its drawbacks. The slides included instances of nations from all across the world. The talk then turned to psychological therapy, a crucial topic considering the epidemic of mental health issues this nation is currently experiencing. Another issue that was raised and attracted national attention is the cost of prescription drugs, which has an impact on everyone who needs to take such medication. Due to his involvement in specific measures like the Inflation Reduction Act and his negotiations with the pharmaceutical industry, this is related to the current Biden government.
Group 2: Law and Order with Immigration
This is specifically my group, and to begin with our presentation The first to arrive was Lilly. Lilly talked on the causes of rising crime rates. Every year, more than 18,000 crimes take place. In comparison to more affluent, white neighborhoods, Lilly noted that "low income communities of color had a considerably larger increase in firearm violence, killings, and assault." I found Lilly's presentation to be quite interesting because she is a very good speaker and clearly explains her subject. The next person to arrive was Gaberiella. She discussed the reasons why immigrants are dispersed across the nation. Republican governors who experience large influxes of unauthorized immigrants are increasingly using this political gambit to highlight what they view as the Biden administration's weak immigration policies. Democrats, however, view this as inhumane and the use of real beings as props. even calling the entire situation political theater. In her speech, Gaby elaborated on both parties and raised several extremely significant issues. Illegal immigration poses a number of risks, including human trafficking over the border between the United States and Mexico and a lack of access to essential services.
Eleazar provided clear explanations of these subjects. Many immigrants who attempt to enter the border illegally suffer injuries. The topic of my presentation was the difficulty border control is having. There are only so many agents that can secure the border because there have been multiple attacks on border patrol. A total of 207,416 immigrants, including 140,196 single people and 51,780 family units, crossed the border illegally in June 2022. This proportion increased by 9% since June 2021. Given how little is known about the various problems border patrol has been having, I'm delighted I was able to talk about them. Joseph discussed the difficulties that immigrants experience, including the lack of housing and employment that makes it difficult for them to feel safe.Joseph discussed the difficulties that immigrants experience, including the lack of housing and employment that makes it difficult for them to feel safe. Joseph did a good job of discussing this problem since it deserves additional discussion. Our entire group discussed significant concerns that affect our community on a daily basis, and it is crucial that we as a community keep talking about these issues until we start to see change.
Group 1: Racial Divide and The Economy
Esmeralda started up the group's presentation by outlining the topics of discussion—the economy and racial divide—for the group. The initial subject was sources of the economy. The key industries that support Miami's economy are tourism, media and telecommunications, foreign trade, and financial services. As of 2019, 19.2 billion people travel. Trade generates $43 billion annually and the media $2 billion. Miami was frequently used as an example while discussing the economy, which I appreciated as it is the state in which we reside. The unemployment rate in Miami-Dade increased by 2.30% from 5.10% in August 2022. Numerous job categories have seen a noteworthy rise, including the private sector (82,500 jobs), the labor force (27,368 jobs), and many others. It is encouraging to see that people are regaining their jobs because after COVID many people lost their jobs and experienced financial hardship. "Most of us have heard about the income discrepancies in America," Annamaria said when she moved on to the topic of income inequality.
How the wealthy are becoming wealthier while the poor are becoming poorer. I had heard this remark before, but until Annamaria explained it, I had no idea what it meant. Andrew revealed the median income by race. According to him, the median income for white people in the US is $32,603, while the average income for black people is $20,192. Additionally, Andrew played a video describing why there is still segregation in South Africa, which I thought to be incredibly poignant and educational. Miami Dade is renowned for its diversity, yet it is also divided according to income, race, and ethnicity. Disparities in the criminal justice system in Miami Dade County, regardless of an individual's race, disadvantage white defendants and areas. Carlos talked about Miami's economic situation. He states “Records from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity show that to date the Miami metro area had the fastest private sector job growth rate for the year among all metro areas.
In conclusion
All groups did an excellent job presenting their parts. Everything was well planned and all members were well spoken. I am glad I was able to learn so much from everyones presentation. I am so proud of each group and how hard they worked on their presentations.
